Mom’s terms for Josh moving in
Since deciding it would be best if Josh didn’t move to New York with me, we’ve come up with an alternative: moving into my home in Kentucky.
The house is a bit busy, with my mom, sister, and my sister’s husband and kids living there (and me, when I’m not at school). But the house is quite big and we all have our own bedrooms. Of course, Josh would stay in my room (despite my mother saying “I don’t want my daughter fornicating in my own house!” to which I replied, “Your eldest already is.”).
I know my mom won’t let him stay there for free like his parents would. Josh just doesn’t want to move back in with his parents because, at 22 years old, he wants some sense of independence. My mom’s initial price was $300 a month for rent, utilities, and food, and an agreement to help with yard work and remodeling the house. Now, don’t get me wrong, this is a pretty fabulous price, considering his bills currently add up to over $550 a month. But I’m trying to cut my baby a deal, you know? So I decided to haggle with her. “Josh doesn’t use that many resources… Josh doesn’t even eat that much… You’d probably never even know he was there half the time, he’s so quiet… He’s got lots of experience in home improvement, he’s indispensable!” Plus, the more he and I can both save now, the sooner we’ll have a down payment for our own house. After much eyelash-batting and sweet coos in my mother’s ear, she dropped it to $200 a month. Josh agreed that it sounded fair, and said he’d take that over living with his parents for free.
Of course, this is all assuming that Josh’s brother Bobby moves up to Indiana to be with his girlfriend, thereby giving Josh a reason to move out of the house they share. If he doesn’t leave, then Josh will probably stay where he is now. I wouldn’t tell Josh this, but I’m secretly hoping Bobby moves up to Indiana, just because life would be a lot more fun with Josh living there. And he’d have a little more social interaction, because I’m sure he and Roger (my sister’s hubby) will bond over video games and beer. Of course, I won’t be there for about the first eight months he’s living there because I’ll be in New York. But then I could come home and have my lover waiting for me!
I know, I’m a dork.
